As a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment of our United States Constitution as well as those laid out in the Wyoming Constitution, I am opposed to those who seek to limit our 2nd Amendment right. As anti-second Amendment activists work to remove, the rights of law-abiding citizens to bear arms, I am reminded about how strongly our founding fathers believed in the right of the people to defend themselves. They understood, that the ability of the people to protect and defend themselves was dependent upon this fundamental right to bear arms. Fearing out of control governments that overstep their authority, led a few of our founding fathers to say this on the subject: THOMAS JEFFERSON: “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” GEORGE WASHINGTON: “A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, said while speaking about the 2nd amendment, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” I will always defend our 2nd amendment rights.
